The NSS unit of East Point College of Engineering and Technology, organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with blood bank and department of pathology of East Point Hospital, Bidrahalli, Bangalore, on 20th August 2019.
The camp began at 10.00 a.m. with a short inaugural function where in Dr. Roopnarayan sir, HOD, Department of pathology and his team of doctors were given formal welcome. One of the NSS student coordinators introduced the Doctors and shared the view of NSS behind the event which was further address by Dr. Madhusmita Jana to the students. He expressed his gratitude to the NSS unit of the college for its continuous endeavor in this regard. He also stressed on the growing need of blood in the society and commended the young volunteers for their noble act. He had a very interactive session wherein he was astonished to hear from an engineering student about the three ways a donated blood can be used.
Dr. S Prakash, principal, EPCET talked about his views on the topic and shared his past experience in the same college about blood donation wherein he appreciated the understanding of importance of blood donation in students of EPCET which he had observed in the past.
The NSS faculty and student coordinators had done all the necessary arrangements before the event could start and this led to the smooth start of the camp wherein there were the pre-checkup setups made as per the instructions by department of pathology, East Point Hospital and a donor had to go through all the checkups before he/she could finally donate the blood.
Over 70 volunteers came forward to donate blood during the camp which included teaching & non-teaching staff and students donors. At the end 30 units of Blood was collected. The blood donors were given Biscuits and fruit juice after donating the blood in order to reenergize themselves. They later appreciated the spirit of service among the faculties and students of EPCET.
This was the 3rd event conducted by the NSS unit for the academic year 2019-2020.
The blood donation camp was co-ordinated by NSS faculty coordinator Chinchu Lakshmi Das, Civil Department as instructed by NSS Officer, Nikesh jain.
