The field of Electronics and Communication Engineering encompasses a broad spectrum of technical areas, including Analog and Digital systems, Microelectronics, Photonics, Electromagnetic Fields, Control Systems, Communication systems, VLSI and Embedded Systems, Signal processing, Power Electronics, Microwaves and Antenna design. ECE Engineers invent new technologies and innovations in a range of fields, from nanotechnology to biotechnology, design high-profile technologies and products, including Medical Devices, Smart Phones, Tablets, Computers, Wireless networks, Optical networks, 3D television and High Fidelity Audio. ECE engineers find innovative ways to use electricity, electrons, electrical and magnetic phenomena (like radio waves and signals) and communication technologies to make people’s lives better. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) started in the year 1999 with the idea of endowing young people with the necessary technical knowledge and professional skills needed to address the challenges in the rapidly growing field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and promoting research in this area. ECE department is a vital and pulsating department with highly competent, experienced and dedicated faculty members. The department meets the growing requirement of practical design engineers in the country and abroad. The curriculum in Electronics and Communication Engineering, framed by Visvesvaraya Technological University, lays greater emphasis on design principles and development of communication models, signal processing, image processing, VLSI and embedded systems.
The Department offers B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering with an intake of 120 students, M.Tech in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems and M.Tech in Electronics with an intake of 18 students. The major areas of faculty expertise of the department include Digital Electronics and Communication Systems, Optical Communication and Networks, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Power Electronics, Microwaves, VLSI and Embedded Systems. The department houses a Research Center affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University with 14 students pursuing their Doctoral Programs. The state-of-the-art laboratories in the department complement the high standards set by the competitive syllabus and nurture the inclination of the students towards Research and Development, besides giving them the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge that they need for industries. The Department provides access to high end software like Xilinx, Mentor Graphics and MATLAB.
ECE Department is actively involved with the student’s growth through regular Parents-Teacher interaction, Distinction Award Ceremony for high achievers, extra coaching for tough subjects and weak students, regular workshops to enhance students skill set. The Technical co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the students covered through FELCOM (Forum of Electronics and Communication) include participation in Paper Presentation, Circuit Design, Robotics Contest, Mock Interviews, Seminars, Quiz, Technical competitions, Project Presentation. Also cultural and sports activities conducted through FELCOM include events such as Sports Day, Teachers Day, Fresher’s Welcome, Farewell to Final Year students and Pooja celebrations. A strong positive reputation of the department draws reputed core companies such as Videocon DTH, 6G Technologies, Cranes Software, NTT Data, Mphasis, Accenture, others for campus recruitment. Those candidates desiring to pursue further studies are also doing well in their respective fields. The qualities inculcated in students make them not only good engineers but also good human beings.

B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering: This course has a sanctioned intake of 120 students. In this program students study these courses which fall in the following domains:Electronics domain courses include Analog Electronic Circuits, Digital Logic Design, Network Analysis, Electronic Instrumentation, Engineering Electromagnetics, Control Systems, Linear ICs & Applications, Power Electronics. Signal Processing domain courses include Signals & Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Speech Processing. VLSI and Embedded Systems domain courses include Microcontrollers, Microprocessors, Fundamentals of HDL, VHDL Design, Fundamentals of CMOS, VLSI Design, Microelectronics Circuits, Embedded System Design. Communication domain courses include Analog Communication, Digital Communication, Information Theory & Coding, Microwave Theory and Devices, Antennas and Propagation, Computer Communication Networks, Optical Fiber Communication, Wireless Communication, Satellite Communication, Digital Switching Systems, Multimedia Communication, Network Security, and Optical Networks. M.Tech. in VLSI Design and Embedded Systems:This course has a sanctioned intake of 18 students. The students in this program specialize in VLSI System Design and Embedded Systems. This course covers topics like Hardware description languages, System architectures, Algorithms, physical Designs, Testing and Verification techniques, Digital VLSI design, simulation and Synthesis, low power design techniques and mixed mode design methodologies.
This course features VLSI courses like Low power VLSI Design, ASIC Design, VLSI Testing, Design of Analog and Mixed Mode VLSI Circuits, System Verilog, Static Timing Analysis, CAD of Digital Systems, CMOS RF Circuit Design and VLSI for Signal Processing. This course also features Embedded System Design courses like Advanced Embedded Microcontrollers, Real Time Embedded Systems, Advanced Embedded System Design, Embedded Linux System Design and Development and System on Chip (SoC) Design. Also other relevant courses such as Nanoelectronics, Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), Internet of Things, Pattern Recognition & Machine Learning, Advances in Image Processing and Real Time Operating System are covered.VLSI designers with the ability to design and develop VLSI and Embedded systems have great opportunities in the Hardware Electronics, VLSI design companies, Embedded System, Consumer Electronics, Communication and IT industries.
M.Tech. in Electronics: This course has a sanctioned intake of 18 students. This program aims at providing advanced in-depth knowledge in the field of Electronics focusing on present day development, to the students with a background in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.Students will learn the modern concepts of Digital Communication and RF circuits, Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Real Time Systems, Network Security, Image Processing, Digital VLSI Design and Advanced Embedded System. This course features a blend of courses from various highly specialized Electronics streams like Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Error Control Coding, Wireless Sensor Networks, Cryptography and Network Security, Automotive Electronics, Synthesis and Optimization of Digital Circuit, Communication System Design using DSP Algorithms, Advanced Embedded System, Digital Circuit and Logic Design, Digital VLSI Design, System on Chip (SoC) Design, CMOS RF Circuit Design, VLSI for Signal Processing, Advanced Computer Architecture, Real Time Operating System, Nanoelectronics, Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), Internet of Things, Pattern Recognition & Machine Learning, Advances in Image Processing and Real Time Operating System. M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research:This Postgraduate program M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research is considered equivalent to M.Tech. degrees of VTU with respect to both employment and higher education. The candidate can register in only such branch of Engineering for which the department is recognized as research centre by VTU. Our Institute has a research Center in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. At present we do not have any students pursuing their M.Sc.(Engg) by Research program at our research center.At the time of registration for M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research, the candidate shall indicate the topic of research, scope of research and the related branch of Engineering / Technology or Allied Fields. Admission to the M.Sc.(Engg) by Research course is open to candidates who have passed B.E. / B.Tech. Examination of VTU or other universities, Teaching / Research Staff / Teaching Assistants, working in any Engineering College and Polytechnic Institutions recognised by AICTE, who have passed B.E./B.Tech, Employees of the State Government/Central Government/Quasi Government Organizations/Public Sector Industries/Reputed Private Industries, who have passed B.E./B.Tech, Awardees of research fellowship by nationally recognised bodies like CSIR etc., provided they have B.E. / B.Tech. Examination and put in a minimum of one year of working experience; NRI/FN/PIOs who have passed the B.E. / B.Tech. or equivalent examination recognised by VTU as equivalent to UG Engineering Degree Programme, with medium of instruction in English or qualified TOFEL/ELTS.
Ph.D in Electronics and Communication Engineering:The department houses a Research Center affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University with 16 students registered to pursue their Doctoral Program. The research center has ten research guides with their students registered for their doctoral programs at East Point College of Engineering and Technology Research Center. Currently three Research guides are working fulltime at the Research center and have few new students waiting to complete their PhD registration process from the University. Four students have already been awarded their Ph.D degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University. Other Research students have either completed their Comprehensive viva or course work or in the process of completing their course work. Also some of the faculty members working fulltime at the institute are pursuing their Ph.D program at other Research centers affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University. The students in the Research Center are pursuing their doctoral programs in the areas of Image processing, Biomedical Applications, Speech Processing, Digital Signal processing, VLSI Design, Radio Frequency circuits, Antenna Design, Wireless sensor networks, IOT devices, 5G applications and LTE. The Department provides access to relevant softwares like Mentor Graphics, Xilinx and MATLAB.
