Master of Physiotherapy - Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Sciences

Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Sciences is a two-year postgraduate program that emphasizes the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. The curriculum encompasses cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and principles of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

Advanced techniques covered include pulmonary hygiene, airway clearance methods, chest physiotherapy, breathing exercises, inspiratory muscle training, and pulmonary rehabilitation. The program also addresses exercise testing and prescription for individuals with heart and lung diseases, including post-cardiac surgery rehabilitation and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management.

Students gain expertise in intensive care physiotherapy, encompassing ventilator management, suctioning, and mobilization of critically ill patients. Proficiency in electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation is integral. The curriculum also emphasizes research methodology, clinical decision-making, and patient education.

Clinical practice in intensive care units (ICUs), cardiac rehabilitation centers, and pulmonary clinics provides hands-on experience. Upon completion, graduates are equipped to improve respiratory function, enhance cardiovascular endurance, and optimize the quality of life for cardiopulmonary patients.

* As notified by the Government of Karnataka, RGUHS and IAP from time to time.

  • Candidates with a B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree (3 ½ or 4 ½years full-time) from a recognized university in India or abroad, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and 6 months compulsory rotating internship from an RGUHS-recognized Physiotherapy College. Obtain Eligibility certificate issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
